On May 27th 2020, New York Post reported that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the House will move forward with voting on whether to extend provisions from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, rejecting a request from GOP leadership in Congress’ lower chamber to hold off.
The bill to be voted upon by the House will reauthorize three expired surveillance programs under the 2015 USA Freedom Act, an intelligence reform law, and make some adjustments to the FISA court.
Though the FISA Bill was expected to pass the House floor, Speaker Nancy Pelosi has CANCELED the vote because President Trump and Republican Congressmen stood their ground against it.
- The Hill reported that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) yanked a vote scheduled for Wednesday night on a bill reauthorizing lapsed surveillance programs after opposition from Republicans and progressives made it unclear if it could pass.” Members are advised that votes are no longer expected in the House tonight,” House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer’s (D-Md.) office announced shortly after 9:30 p.m.
President Trump himself tweeted about the bill and pledged to VETO it immediately.
