Barcelona are due to announce the signing of Memphis Depay on a free transfer at the start of next week, with the Dutchman’s contract at Lyon expiring this month.
The 27-year-old has enjoyed a superb spell at Lyon after joining from Manchester United in 2016, scoring 76 goals in 178 games in all competitions.
His most recent campaign was his most impressive yet, scoring 20 Ligue 1 goals and 22 in just 40 appearances across all competitions.
The French side were keen to keep hold of the forward, offering him a new deal, while Juventus were also in the market for him, but Depay has chosen to move to Barcelona where he will link up with his former Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman.
Barca are strapped for cash and are largely restricted to signing players on free transfers this summer, but that is not going too badly for them, having already confirmed the arrivals of Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia after they both left Manchester City.
Depay is set to join them, with Spanish publication Sport reporting that a three-year deal has been agreed at the Camp Nou and the move will be confirmed next week.
Depay will be an integral part of Netherlands’ challenge at Euro 2020 this summer, scoring twice in their friendly on Wednesday night against Scotland which ended 2-2.
He has now scored 25 goals for his country, more so than any other player in the Dutch squad.
Barcelona have spent some money this summer already, paying £7.8m to bring Emerson back to the club after two-and-a-half years on loan at Real Betis.
The Brazil international is yet to appear for Barca, but will add competition at right-back.
