Roy Keane insists Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson should not be part of England’s Euro 2020 squad.
Henderson has not played since Liverpool’s defeat to Everton three and a half months ago, suffering a groin injury that ended his domestic season.
The 30-year-old was included in Gareth Southgate’s final 26-man squad this week, making the bench in Sunday’s friendly against Romania with the Liverpool skipper expected to get a runout at the Riverside Stadium.
Keane however has disagreed with the decision to name him in the squad, questioning what role he can play given his lack of match fitness.
‘He can’t be fit if he can’t start a game against Romania. Because physically and mentally, today’s game won’t be that tough for him.
‘He’s an experienced player but he hasn’t kicked a ball for three and a half months and going into a European Championships, he can’t be right.
Now I’ve heard people saying they want him around the place. For what? Does he do card tricks? Does he have a sing song, does he have quizzes in the evenings, what does he do?
‘And if you’re Liverpool you wouldn’t be happy either.’
