How Cristiano Ronaldo could impact Paul Pogba’s Manchester United future

Manchester United are set for a busy summer transfer window and the work done in regards to outgoing business will be just as important as incoming signings.

Significant departures are on the cards at Old Trafford, with Juan Mata poised for an exit on a free transfer while one of David de Gea and Dean Henderson is also likely to leave if the other is determined to be the club’s first-choice stopper.

In a year where finances will again be stretched due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, raising fees to land top targets may be critical – and Paul Pogba is a name that is never too far away with a link to an exit.

Now, Massimiliano Allegri’s imminent return to Juventus has already reignited speculation that the Serie A side could look to bring the World Cup-winning midfielder back to Italian football.

Interestingly, that’s where Cristiano Ronaldo could come into play as Calcio Mercato reports the club need to sell the Portuguese star before they can complete a mega-deal in the market for the likes of Pogba.

The report suggests a swap deal that would see Ronaldo return to United, where he enjoys legendary status, is ‘no longer fantasy’ but it is still a transfer that is extremely unlikely to occur – although Ronaldo could still have an impact into proceedings.\

Paris Saint-Germain are named among the leading suitors to secure a move for Ronaldo, while a move to China has also earned plenty of mentions.

Any transfer for Ronaldo could then provide the finances to Juventus to complete a deal for Pogba but, like many situations this summer, deals are complicated due to the European Championships.

Ronaldo and Pogba are both due to compete for Portugal and France respectively, which means transfer speculation will rumble on for at least another month.
