Brandon Williams has been granted permission to leave Manchester United on a season-long loan.

Full-back Williams, 20, only started five times for United last season and was denied a mid-season loan after the club sold Timothy Fosu-Mensah to Bayer Leverkusen and loaned Ethan Laird to MK Dons.

The Manchester Evening News understands Williams is generating interest from Premier League and Championship clubs. Southampton and Newcastle enquired about taking Williams on loan last season.

Williams has played most of his career at left-back but provided cover for Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right-back in the second half of last season and had to wait until May to start in the Premier League.

United have told right-back Diogo Dalot to retun to the club for pre-season training next month despite interest from AC Milan in a loan deal with an obligation to buy.

Milan have proposed to sign Dalot on another season-long loan with an option to buy, but United are prepared to keep the Portuguese if a move does not materialise for Kieran Trippier.

United are interested in signing Atletico Madrid right-back Trippier but he could be priced out of a move to his boyhood club.

The MEN revealed Trippier has made arrangements to relocate to his home city of Manchester but he could be priced out of a move to United. Trippier has also changed agents.
