It’s now been over a week since Manchester United’s season came to an end in disappointing fashion in the Europa League final but attentions will now turn to this summer’s European Championships.
England played their first friendly ahead of this summer’s tournament on Wednesday night, defeating Austria 1-0 in Middlesbrough courtesy of Bukayo Saka’s strike.
None of the United players who were involved in the defeat to Villarreal were involved in the match, but Jesse Lingard did start despite not being named in Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad.
Meanwhile, Pau Torres has commented on his future amid United’s interest in the centre-back.
“Right now I have a contract with Villarreal. We’ve won a European trophy. We’ve shown we can compete against any opponent,” he said.
“Next year we have the Champions League ahead of us, and that’s what I’m focused on. Those rumours mean that you’re doing a good job. I’m calm.
“Those rumours came out a while ago and I don’t think my performance has changed, it’s been good.”
