Manchester United will offer Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a new contract and will support him with up to four new signings in the upcoming transfer window, according to reports.

Solskjaer guided United to a second-placed finish in the Premier League this season and is still searching for his first trophy as manager at Old Trafford after his side were beaten by Villarreal in the Europa League final on Wednesday evening.

Solskjaer’s current deal expires at the end of next season but according to The Telegraph, United will offer him a new three-year contract and the club’s hierarchy plan to begin negotiations in the next few weeks.

The report also claims that United are willing to support Solskjaer by bringing in up to four new arrivals this summer.

Solskjaer is understood to be prioritising a deal for Jadon Sancho, who United failed to sign from Borussia Dortmund last year, as well as a new central defender.

The United manager is also targeting a new striker and a central midfielder, with Harry Kane and Declan Rice on his shortlist.

Speaking after United’s defeat on penalties in the Europa League final, Solskjaer made it clear that he is keen to bolster his squad ahead of the next campaign.

‘We’ve probably done as well as anyone could imagine,’ said Solskjaer.

‘We need to do better and work harder, be cleverer, but two or three players [are needed] to strengthen the starting XI and the squad altogether.

‘It’s important for us to go even further. I’m sure our contenders or challengers will also want to improve so we want to improve as much as we can.’

Solskjaer also refused the suggestion that United have delivered a successful season following their defeat to Villarreal.

‘We need to get better, simple as,’ said the United manager.

‘We’ve done really well this season to come through a difficult start and no pre-season, losing three of the first six games.

‘We pushed in the league and got closer to the top than we thought at that point. And we got to a final but you need to win these finals to make it a good season.’

  1. Conclude whatever deals you are going to do before the Euros. In my humble opinion you should go for….Kane, Varane, Grealish and Sancho.
