Reported Chelsea target Maxence Lacroix is wanted by RB Leipzig, with the Bundesliga club preparing a bid for the defender.
Sky Sports Germany reported in mid-May that the Blues were interested in the Wolfsburg centre-back, who has enjoyed a fine season.
Now, the same news outlet are claiming that Leipzig are preparing an offer for Lacroix, to try and replace Ibrahima Konate – who completed a £36million transfer to Liverpool just last week.
Thomas Tuchel reportedly wants to bring another central defender to Stamford Bridge with Andreas Christensen, Cesar Azpilicueta, Kurt Zouma, Antonio Rudiger and Thiago Silva his options at the moment.
However, with Leipzig’s reported interest – and imminent offer – then it could mean a bit of a fight for his signature, which could then lead to a bidding war.
Lacroix was asked recently about his future at Wolfsburg but played down speculation that he could be leaving.
“I see [the rumours], but I refer those matters to my advisor because I want to concentrate on my work here at Wolfsburg and want to do a good job here,” he told Sport Buzzer.
“I am with VfL and qualified for the Champions League with the club. I’m very happy here.
“Sure, things can always happen quickly in football, but again: I feel very comfortable at VfL and there is absolutely no reason to think about other things.”
Lacroix then namedropped Chelsea when asked about who the best teams in Europe were at the moment.
The youngster said: “Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Liverpool, Chelsea, to name a few.”
